In this selfie age we live in, we all do a lot more smiling, which is totally a good thing – it’s always nice to see a smiling face beaming up at you – but it has left some of us feeling a little self-conscious about our appearance, and in particular our teeth.

If you’re one of those people who thinks that your teeth could be a bit more beautiful, here are some tips to help you achieve terrific teeth:

Schedule Regular Dental Appointments

The key to having healthy teeth, that also happen to look great, is undoubtedly seeing your dentist regularly. You should see your dentist for a check-up, clean and polish as often as they recommend, not only, so you always have a selfie-ready smile, but also because healthy teeth and gums can help to prevent problems with your general health too!

Get Braces!

If you don’t like the way your teeth stick out of you, don’t find that gap between them cute (it probably is) and it’s really upsetting you, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t get them fixed. Affordable braces are more common than ever, and despite what a lot of people think, they aren’t just for kids! You don’t have to be a teen to do something about your teeth if you want to!

Clean Up Your Diet

If your diet is high in sugary and acidic foods, then you might want to have a rethink. As you know, sugar is just about the worst substance for teeth – if you eat it a lot, it will cause cavities and rotting teeth are never a good look.

Similarly, foods which are acidic, particularly in liquid form, such as lemon juice and sodas can erode your teeth’s’ enamel, causing them to become yellow.

Then, there are foods like tea and coffee, which can stain the teeth when taken regularly. Try, if not removing, at least cutting down on the quantities of these foods you consume and you should see an improvement in your teeth.

Use a Whitening Paste

Using a whitening toothpaste that also contains fluoride is a good way to ensure that your pearly whites are pearly white and that they stay that way, ideally, you should be brushing, as I’m sure you know, at least twice a day. Studies have shown that using a round-headed electric toothbrush is the most effective at removing plaque and debris, so perhaps invest in one of them too.

Don’t Forget to Go Interdental!

As well as brushing your teeth, if you want them to be totally sparkling and completely healthy, you should also clean between your teeth, using either floss or interdental brushes. This will help to eliminate the one-third of bacteria that brushing alone cannot reach!

Wait an Hour

Before you brush, you should wait at least one hour after eating because it takes about that long for the mouth’s acid to neutralize. If you brush before this time has elapsed, you’ll be moving that acid around your mouth, which could damage your enamel.

Terrific teeth shall now be yours!
