First, let me clarify something to all of you, I am not a therapist. I am simply a writer of poetry that somehow touches people with my words and poems, possibly healing their souls in some small way by making them feel less alone. I hear them in different ways as they express their pain and loneliness in their own lives. And after listening to some of their problems I want to try and help in any way so they are able to experience some kind of joy in their lives again.

If you feel as though you are going through the motions of one day to the next, you are not alone. Many of us may feel that way especially if we have the same routine, day in and day out. It can be easy to fall into a rut and our lives become predictable simply because we may not be making time for ourselves.

Making time for yourself is crucial if you want to pull yourself out of that black hole in your life and start to feel alive again. One of the dangers we may fall back on is relying on someone else to make you happy. Unfortunately, as nice as this sounds, it may not be working for you. The reason behind this is easy yet it is also complicated. And it is because you need to make yourself happy first! Sounds simple, right? Wrong, it is anything but simple, knowing how to make oneself happy.

If you can remember back to when you were a teenager or even younger, and all the dreams and aspirations you may have had. Those were the days when you thought anything was possible. You may be feeling like those days are now long gone along with your dreams. But you can dig deep into yourself and find that person you once were before they told you who you were supposed to be now. Listen to what made your heart beat and how your soul whispered to you back then.

Once you figure out what makes you happy, do that. Try to discover your reason for being here in this life. What are your passions? What things do you enjoy doing? Figure out how to enjoy spending time alone and do the things you love. Whether it is reading, creating, writing, going out for adventures – do it! Spend your time with positive people that make you happy. Negativity can kill any passions in your life and bring you down. If you are dealing with negative people or situations, it may be time to concentrate on the positive things in your life. Anything or anyone that lifts you up and encourages you can be a rare thing, so pay attention to who or what this is in your life.

Yes, it is a known fact that we are all very busy with our lives and our responsibilities that we must take care of first. However, try to carve out some time for yourself, even if it is in small amounts. Discover what you enjoy doing and what makes you feel more alive. This is crucial to your well-being and who you are as a person. You need to find that person you once were and become them once again. You will surprise even yourself how much better you feel. This will bring personal happiness which is a very good start to your overall happiness in life.
