Most people think they can spot an introvert a mile away, but introverts are not that easily recognizable.

In fact, most introverts may not even be aware they are introverts themselves. Shyness is not always an indication of a true introvert but rather introverts work off energy and whether their surroundings are giving off positive or negative energy.

Some facts about introverts that may surprise you:

1.) Typically, being an introvert does not always mean you are shy or have a fear of interacting with others. Yes, you can be shy and be an introvert but not all of them are. They can be typically quiet though. If they feel positive energy from you, they may engage with you and it is always on their terms.

2.) Introverts do not have tons of friends, but the friends they do bring into their circle are the ones they trust and value and have built intense friendships with. They value their time and don’t waste it on things not worth it to them. They are very selective regarding who their friends are and who they spend their time with. But, rest assured you will have an ally for life.

3.) Introverts don’t always want to be alone but they do enjoy their solitude. They are perfectly happy being by themselves and have learned how to keep themselves busy doing what they love. They need time alone to recharge. Many creative types fall into this category such as artists and writers. They need solitude to get “in-touch” with themselves and their passions to create.

4.) Introverts are observant and prefer listening over talking. They make very good listeners and this is also why they make good friends. They will not monopolize the conversation and will only speak when they have something important to say. They are intense with their thoughts and will only share them if they trust you.

5.) Introverts are thinkers, they do not follow the crowd or the popular vote. They are typically intelligent, perceptive and can think for themselves. They are not bothered by what others think of them and will do their own thing. They are very secure in themselves and who they are.

If you are friends with an introvert try to remember to listen to them too, even though they won’t ever ask you to, but they will notice when you do.
