One of the most common things that hold people back from living a healthier lifestyle is that they feel as though it’s too difficult and involves huge sacrifices.

The difference between your lifestyle now and a “healthy lifestyle” might seem too large a leap to make.

But the trick is to realize that your lifestyle doesn’t have to change overnight. Rather than trying to set a massive goal and completely change the way you live, make small changes and add to them.

Soon, you’ll live a life that you can enjoy and that’s good for you. These changes don’t need to be made in order, just tackle them as and when you can. If you experience a slip, try not to see it as a setback, but as a part of the journey. Just take the next day as it comes.

Cut Out Bad Habits

For many people, the most difficult change is to cut out bad habits. After all, there’s a reason we pick up habits in the first place.

However, the benefits often far outweigh the temporary difficulties of cutting out certain habits, foods, or substances. The first step is to accept that it will be hard, and there will be setbacks, but it’s absolutely worth it.

For example, cutting out smoking is one of the most difficult addictions to kick. But millions of people achieve it, and they can breathe easier.

You will find that you feel better, look better, and you may even notice small things like an increased sense of taste when you quit smoking. Your friends and family will also appreciate the change.

Eat Healthily

Eating more healthily is one of those very subjective things that you can work on gradually. While it is possible to completely switch your eating habits overnight, it’s not easy.

Rather than trying a drastic change or a crash diet that you can’t sustain, make small, gradual changes.

Switch out sugary drinks for water or herbal tea. Introduce healthy snack options into your diet. Try to cook your meals from scratch.

Keep Fit

You might experience a few hurdles with keeping fit. If you don’t enjoy working out, you have an immediate issue. Another potential pitfall is that you may struggle to find the time.

But this is another change that can be made gradually. You don’t need to be able to run 5 miles in a week. Even a short workout each day is better than nothing, and you can build up as you get fitter.

Work out with friends and have fun with it.

Sleep Well

Poor sleep hygiene is practically an epidemic in the USA and around the world.

Set a routine for bedtime and try to wake up at the same time every morning. Let yourself relax before bed.

Some people find that a soothing cup of tea can get them in the mood for bed. You can also find some supplements at science.bio that encourage healthy sleeping. You might be surprised at how much better you feel after a good night’s sleep.

Mental Health and Self Care

As well as your physical health, pay attention to your mental health.

Check in on your friends and family and don’t be afraid to talk to them if you need to. There’s also no shame in seeking medical help if you need it.

The important thing is that you’re happy and healthy.
