When it comes to our health, most people concern themselves with eating and exercise habits. We know that certain foods are bad for us, and we know that a lack of exercise makes things worse. But, how many of you keep tabs on your drinking habits? Little did you know that your drinking habits could be ruining your health, even if you’re eating and exercising well.
To illustrate this point, here are some bad drinking habits that you might be doing, and need to stop right now:
Excessive Alcohol Consumption
This one’s for all the students out there that are possibly enjoying their few years in college. Many young people drink copious amounts of alcohol these days, which is a pretty big problem. The links between alcohol and your health are there for all to see.
It makes you pack on weight, it ruins your skin and can cause many heart-related health issues. If you’re drinking heavily a few times per week, then you need to stop right away. Cut down and limit yourself to maybe one day of moderate drinking every week at most.
If you really struggle to cope with this, then that’s a sign of a bigger problem. Alcohol addiction can creep up on you, and there are loads of students suffering from it. Thankfully, there are various treatment options available to help you kick this habit and get back on the right path. I’m not saying you need to be completely sober, just avoid drinking too much!
Not Drinking Enough Water
I would estimate that the majority of you reading this are guilty of not drinking enough water. Again, the links between water consumption and your health are there for all to see. This time, drinking lots of water has proven benefits. It helps you stay energized and hydrated, which can help your skin and prevent lots of health issues.
If you get constant headaches, then the chances are you don’t drink enough water. If you’re always tired, then this could also be caused by a lack of hydration. Try and drink around 2 litres of water every day – upping the quantity when you exercise as you sweat more.
Too Many Fizzy Drinks
Fizzy drinks are a guilty pleasure for many of us. We all like to sip on some Coca-Cola or lemonade in the sun, and the drinks just taste very nice too. However, drinking too many fizzy drinks is awful for your health. Firstly, they’re packed full of sugar which damages your teeth and leads to cavities.
Not only that but filling your body with too much sugar will inevitably lead to an insulin spike that ends up converting all that excess sugar into fat cells. So, in short, you will get fat. Avoid these drinks, opt for things like fresh fruit juices instead – if you’re desperate for a flavor kick. Maybe have one or two now and then, but certainly not as a regular part of your diet.
You can clearly see how these drinking habits are terrorizing your body. My advice is to try and kick these habits and start drinking better. You will be surprised at how much healthier you feel after doing this!
