Scientists have long been suggesting that changing your diet could lead to a longer life. Many people have turned to the traditional Asian diet for this. For instance, in the Asian culture people tend to consume a lot of fish and we will explore why this is beneficial.
But it’s important to be aware that there are a variety of different types of foods that you can add to your diet, and that could, ultimately, increase your lifespan. Let’s look at a few of the possibilities that you should certainly consider.
Wine Isn’t Always Bad for You
Red wine, according to the experts is actually pretty good for your health. It helps your blood and supposedly your cardiovascular system. This isn’t just coming from a random blog online, it’s straight from the mouths of the American Heart Association.
As with anything, it’s all about how much you drink. If you drink red wine every night and regularly drain a bottle, then it will still cause you problems for somewhat obvious reasons. However, if you have one or two glasses a night, this is considered moderate consumption and it may reduce declines in health related to age. So, perhaps it’s not such a bad habit after all as long as you’re drinking the right colour of wine that is.
Going Vegan Might Be A Great Move
You can consider going vegan if you want to live longer. Many people swear that the vegan lifestyle will lead to a longer lifespan. However, it’s worth pointing out why this is. It’s not due to the fact that these people don’t eat meat. Rather, it’s based on what they replace that meat with.
Since they don’t eat meat or products from animals, these individuals tend to consume more fruit, veg, whole grain and so forth. As such, their bodies get all the vitamins, antioxidants and minerals they could possibly need. So, perhaps you don’t need to cut the meat out of your diet.
Maybe you just need to balance your diet a little more and add extra good stuff. By doing this, you will be protecting your body and your health from the marks of age.
Rustle Up A Few Mussels
Are you partial to seafood? If so, we suggest you get your hands on some fresh mussels. They are not just tasty, these seafloor treats are actually incredibly good. Indeed, they provide so many benefits that it would be hard to list them all. Though, perhaps we should start with the fact that it improves your immune system. Green mussels are also beneficial for joints and aches as you get older.
Why is this relevant? Well, if you’re constantly in pain, you’ll probably avoid exercise as much as you can which means that you won’t get the benefit from it your body needs. In doing so, you may well limit your lifespan. Exercise certainly keeps the body young according to the latest scientific studies.
Follow Okinawans?
Remember what we said about the Asian diet? Well, that actually refers to Okinawa, a southern point of Japan. The population here have super long lifespans, and they very rarely develop diseases that are age-related. So, what do they eat over there?
Well, some people suggest that the protein-rich tofu prevents an issue like breast cancer or even heart disease. As well as this, they love their vitamin C filled sweet potatoes. Not a bad way to get your health back on track but there’s no guarantee you’ll see any improvements in your health by doing this. It could actually be all down to genetics.
Wait, Fat Can Be Good For You?
That doesn’t sound right does it, but it’s true. Although, we should be clear we’re not talking about the juicy yummy fat you get on a slab of meat. That’s bad fat. You need to look for good fat instead. Yummy good fat can be found in olives, avocados and indeed nuts.
There’s a fun fact about nuts by the way. Almond nuts are highly rich in protein and other minerals. Due to this, you can survive healthily by eating a diet consisting almost entirely of almond nuts. Celebs have used this trick to perfect and tone their body, but we imagine it takes a massive level of willpower.
Stop Eating So Darn Fast
Do you wolf down your food? Perhaps you grew up in a family where if you didn’t eat fast enough it vanished before your eyes. Well, research shows that people who eat fast often eat more and thus get more calories which is bad for you.
A low-calorie diet will mean that you’ll live a lot longer. As such, you need to take it nice and easy. The other benefit of this is that you’ll feel full faster so you won’t need to go on the hunt for those snacks later on.
Let’s Go Fishing
Omega-3s: If you haven’t heard of them you’re probably not on the fishy diet kick. Omega 3s supposedly reduce the chances of cancer and heart attack. They can be found mainly in things like salmon and trout. If you’re not a fish lover and hate the taste as well as the smell, you’re out of luck. Kidding!
You can actually go for spinach or walnuts instead because they too contain omega-3s. Or, you can opt to just add the vitamin to your daily diet through supplements. Though, do make sure that you are getting them from a trusted source.
The Cranberry Solution
Finally, you do need to think about eating some cranberries. You’ll live longer with these in your diet according to the latest science that examined fruit flies. According to studies, fruit flies that consumed cranberries live a lot longer than others.
As you can see then, there’s a massive variety of foods you can consume to stay healthy and perhaps even live longer. While none of these are guaranteed to work, they might be worth a shot. Particularly, if you’re hoping to get that 100-year-old birthday card.
