Your heart is the most important organ in your body. If it stops working properly, then all hell will break loose. There are many health conditions related to your heart that are potentially fatal. Consequently, you need to keep yours as healthy as can be. Most of the things you can do to achieve exemplary heart health are very simple and easy. So, no more excuses, start doing these things today.
Be As Active As Possible
Being stationary all day long is awful for your heart. On the flip side, being active is great for it. If you want a healthy heart, then you should do some type of physical activity for at least 150 minutes every week. This is beneficial because it elevates your heart rate for the period you’re exercising. This keeps your heart ticking over and ensures it functions properly. You’ll slash your chances of contracting heart disease, and exercise also counters another cause of heart issues; stress. By exercising you release endorphins that help counter your feelings of stress, and keep your heart healthy.
Get Your Daily Dose Of Sleep
Medical professionals recommend we get at least 8 hours of sleep per day, and this is essential if you want to keep your heart healthy. When we sleep, our body relaxes, and all our hormones get regulated. A lack of sleep can cause hormonal imbalances, but also leads to high blood pressure. Now, any heart doctor in the world will tell you that high blood pressure is one of the biggest causes of heart failure and many other heart conditions. You need to keep your blood pressure at a normal rate, and sleeping 8 hours every night is a very good way to do that.
Stop Eating Like A Glutton
If you stuff your face full of saturated fats, sugary foods, and just general garbage, then you’re asking for an unhealthy heart. A bad diet can mean your body is filled with too much cholesterol, which can quickly cause a whole host of heart problems. As well as this, your diet may lead to excessive weight gain, which is also bad for your heart. So, switch up your eating habits and stop eating like a pig! Eat a lot of fruit & veg, cut down on your salt intake, and try to eat things with omega-3 in them as this helps fight heart disease.
Drink Less Alcohol & Don’t Smoke
Smoking is terrible for your health and will make your heart very unhealthy. So, cut it out of your life entirely if you currently smoke. What’s more, drinking alcohol is also not great for your heart. Most people like to drink, mainly on the weekends as a way of letting your hair down! My advice is to cut down on your alcohol intake. Try and go a week or two without drinking, or maybe even restrict yourself to a glass of wine per week. Doing this will greatly improve your heart health.
All of these things are very easy for you to implement in your daily life. Start doing them, and you’ll be on your way to a healthier heart.
